“Let the Children Come to Me”

Nancy Halifin

I John 3:1-3

Verse 1: “How great is the love the Father has lavished in us that we should be called children of God!...” 2 “Dear friends know we are children of God and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”

At this time of Advent, remembering Christ coming into the world as an infant and His childhood, He calls us also to come to Him as a child. Some of our dearest memories come from childhood. Even in a home where strife was frequent, the child inside of you will cling to a moment when love was experienced. Children reach out for love and cherish the moments when it is felt.

Can you imagine the overwhelming feeling of love the children felt when they were embraced by Jesus the Christ? They didn’t hesitate to go to Him, in fact, the disciples had to try to hold them back. They must have been drawn to Him; recognizing in Him the love of God. Psalm 8:2 “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise.”

He wants us to embrace Him as a child, without hesitation recognizing His love for us then our inheritance will be the Kingdom of God with shouts of praise and singing.

As we travel through this time of Advent, let us travel as a child, with joy, singing, and praising the arrival of our Christ child.

Prayer: Dear Lord open my eyes to see the joy, hear the praises, and feel the touch of your love as a child of God while we celebrate your gift of Christ, Amen.
