Advent Devo Day 19

Thursday, December 17th

Psalm 17:5-9

Nancy Hallfin

“I call upon you my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. “

This year has been a great, though difficult, transition for me. I have gone from being a couple to being a single person; from living with someone to living alone (which I’ve never done); from having a confidant to relying on myself and my judgment. Through this I have learned that I am not single, God is walking with me. I have a confidant who hears my prayers and IF I listen well, He will guide my judgment. He always turns His ear to me and hears my prayer. One of the advantages of being single is that the world is a little farther away and God feels closer. IF I look more carefully, I see the answers to my prayers; even the ones I didn’t expect.

“Show me the wonders of your great love.”

Look and listen, always try to find God. Sometimes He is dynamic, things we call miracles are so obvious we must acknowledge Him. My son-in-law greeted me in Puerto Rico when my husband had died the night before. Neither of us knew I would need him at just that time, but God knew. Sometimes God is hard to acknowledge. Only later did I realize that throughout the preparation and funeral, snippets of love songs had run through my head. Bob couldn’t hear well so music was not his thing; I choose to assume God was reassuring me things would be alright. “Keep me as the apple your eye.”

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me. As a parent loves their child as no one else can; so, I know you love me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
