Passage: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Raise your hand if you’ve ever been to a wedding where this passage has been used. Besides weddings, do we repeat it often? Probably not but we should.
Let’s think about the words. Try substituting the word “God” for the word “love” and see what happens. For example, God is patient, God is kind. Try the entire passage this way. Now try it using “Jesus”. Perfect right, Ok, now, raise your hand if you’ve ever repeated any or all of the passage when that idiot in front of you cut you off at the intersection. Chances are those are not the first words to come to mind.
So, let’s try another substitution. This time substitute “Lord help me to…” for “love”. Such as, Lord help me to be patient, to not be proud, rude, self-seeking. Ok, it’s not perfect word for word because only God and Jesus are perfect. But you get the idea - using this substitution gives us a way to ask for help.
For this Advent season, as the world around us seems to get more chaotic day by day, it is most important for us to stay focused on our Lord and Savior.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as we come into the season of our Savior’s birth, we ask for Your blessing for our entire planet. We pray for those who will lead not only our country but other nations as well. We pray for peace, love and kindness for all. Let us feel Your grace which gives us the knowledge that we are loved. Let us feel Your love and kindness. Open our hearts so we may not be rude or boastful but always try our best to act as You would want us to. Amen.
