“The Power of Three by Three”
By Melinda Mailly
Passage: Romans 12:12
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
What a powerful trio! While each is singular and vital, they are connected and supportive, echoing the Holy Trinity.
We have the joy of the hope given in the gift of Jesus – his love, his sacrifice, his grace. God supplies this joyful hope generously in a continual supply as we trust in him through the power of the Holy Spirit:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
We have God ever present with us in our struggles and storms, in each of which, we can trust him to use for our good, through the example of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit:
“… but we also rejoice in our sufferings because we know that sufferings produce perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5:3-5
While we are told to ‘pray without ceasing’, we have the Holy Spirit ever ready to speak up for us:
“… the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not how what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.” Romans 8:25-27
A powerful threesome powered by the original, all powerful THREE, the Holy Trinity.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank you that, whatever the season, we can be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer, as you, Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit all work continually alongside us to keep our hope and trust in you, our patient endurance strong, and our hearts ever strengthened by your constant presence. Amen
