“Communion with God”
By Carol Sue Hutchinson
Passage: James 5:13-16
Communication is an important part of our daily lives. Conversation with our close friends happens most days. Not too long ago, I received a call from my sister asking if everything was all right. Why had she called – because I hadn’t responded to any of her texts. I received a similar call from our daughter. (I really am a better communicator than this indicates!) They hadn’t heard from me and were checking on us.
Have you ever wondered what God thinks when He hasn’t heard from us in a day or more? He cares about us. We maintain and enhance our relationship with God through communion or communication with Him.
This passage mentions several situations where prayer helps. When we are in trouble, sick, unhappy, sad or we are happy or full of joy, we should pray. We should even call our friends to pray with us. Verse 15 says “And the prayer of faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.” The end of verse 16 says “the Prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” “The prayer offered in faith” does not refer to the faith of the sick person, but to the faith of the people praying.” God heals according to His will.
God’s Presence is always with us. God also wants to know that we know He is with us and wants to be an integral part of our lives. Have you told God lately how you are doing?
Prayer: God you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Help us to remember to check in with you often every day and listen to word of truth. Amen
