Passage: Romans 5:1-5
This passage shows us at least two things: God’s generosity and how to develop patience. I don’t know about you but I’m not sure about developing patience!
In verse 5, the writer tells us that “God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us”. Another way of saying this is that “we can’t round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit.”
Something that is poured can denote a very generous portion. A continuously pouring until someone says stop. God doesn’t stop pouring. We receive His love every day in so many ways.
Now developing patience is a process. I was told once that I shouldn’t pray for patience unless I really wanted it. The process begins with suffering. When we find ourselves hemmed in with troubles and we can’t see a way out. That suffering produces endurance. This could be patience over the long haul which produces character. Character is who we are in the eyes of others and of God. The deep understanding of what our purpose and path are.
Character produces hope. Hope is the real thing that helps us wait for what God has for us next. Hope never disappoints us. We are never left feeling shortchanged. God’s generosity wants us to see the potential that he sees in each of us. God’s generosity shows us his path for each of us. This way he can use us and our gifts for the growth of His kingdom.
Prayer: Almighty God, let us reflect on your generosity and your love. Help us to listen to your words that will lead us to your path for us. Amen
