“Walking in Love”
By Robert Hutchinson
Passage: 2 John 5-6
One of the first songs we learned as children in church was “Jesus Loves Me”. This is a song I still sing to myself at random times. We have been told and reminded many times that God is love and expects us to walk in love as well.
Love is an action word. We love others with action. A hug at a time of distress or sadness, lets us know that we are loved by those around us. The action of love goes even further.
We can show love in many ways by avoiding prejudice and discrimination, by accepting people, by listening, helping, serving, and refusing to judge. Knowing God’s command isn’t enough. We must put it into practice, walking “in obedience to his commands.”
As Christians, we are people who often reach out to people who are hurting, hunger, insecure, lost everything in a natural disaster and in many more ways. This is second nature to us because we walk in love. Walking in love makes what we believe in Christ concrete. It shows what we believe.
There is a song that we used to sing, “They’ll Know We Are Christians by our Love.” There are people that have been hurt in the past by Christians and won’t let you talk about what you believe. You can still witness and minister to them by showing love in your actions.
Love is action and is a powerful commandment of Jesus for us to obey.
Prayer: Jesus, help us to show your love to the people around us not expecting anything in return. Help us to love others as you love us. Amen
