Casting a Net
No matter what occupies our daily lives, we can tend to get caught up in trivial details. Sometimes my husband will ask how my day went, and I will say that I spent it “putting out fires,” meaning that I dealt with crisis after crisis. Sometimes our lives can feel like this, and we might not feel productive. Yet, if I set aside time for reflection each day, I could deal with the stress in a more meaningful way.
Lent is a great time to take a breath and refocus our lives on God. It is a 40-day period in which we can imitate the time that Jesus went into the wilderness to pray and find clarity. During this intentional time with God, we can pray, listen to God, and find direction.
In the passage for today, Matthew 4:18-22, Jesus tells his disciples to cast their nets wider and to follow him. In the case of our lesson today, perhaps we can cast our nets wider while listening for God. We may find clarity and calm.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, Please help us cast our nets wider, listening for your voice. May we use this time of reflection to center ourselves on your love and peace. Amen and Amen.
