Jesus at the Center

Linda Spitaleri

John 5:2-16

During Jesus’ time, there were worship centers to pagan gods such as the Greco-Roman god of medicine and health, Asciepius.

It is possible that some of the blind, lame and sick at the Pool of Bethesda were not waiting for God to heal them but were placing their faith in this false god.

Within the first porticoes there lay a multitude of those who were impaired yet, Jesus spoke to only one of them. He says to a sick man, “Do you wish to get well? Arise, take up your pallet and walk.”

Jesus later finds the man in the temple and says to him, “…you have become well; do not sin anymore.” Perhaps referring to placing faith in pagan gods. Do not continue in a life of sinning, place your faith in the one true God.

Prayer: God help us to be found looking to You alone; remembering as this song says - Jesus at the center of it all. From beginning to the end. It will always be, it has always been You. Amen.
