John, The Baptist had been baptizing people at the Jordon River with delivering the message that people confess their sins and be baptized as a symbol of changing their life around. When Jesus came to him and requested John to baptize him, John objected and said, “It is I who needs to be baptized, not you!” Jesus told him to “do it” and further said it is God’s plan.
It was that act of baptism of Jesus that fulfilled God’s plan as the Holy Spirit came in the form of a dove and landed on Jesus. God’s voice was heard, “This is my Son, chosen and marked by my love, delight of my life.”
How often do we listen and obey, when He speaks to us? Do we then act in obedience to Him? During this Lent, we have the opportunity to obey God’s word and the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Do we open our hearts to what God’s word is saying to us? This is the time to make things right before God and demonstrate obedience and love by prayer, studying scripture, and sharing God’s message with others.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your gift of salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit work in our lives to increase our knowledge, obedience, and love for you. Amen.
