Blessed are Believers
Robbin Manor
Luke 6:20-22
These verses are known as the “Beatitudes,” which come from the Latin word meaning “blessing.” The beatitudes describe what it means to be a follower of Jesus and what we can expect from the world. Also, as believers, what we can expect of God. We are looking at verses 20-22. But in its entirety, also includes 23-26.
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is in the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you
and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the
Son of Man.”
Jesus was telling his disciples that as believers that they may suffer here on earth, but they will be rewarded in heaven. This promise is retold in other verses as well. Here are a few: Romans 8:18, Matthew 16:27, Revelation 7:16, Revelation 21:4.
As followers of Jesus, we are truly blessed. Even if at times, it may seem as though we are forsaken, Christ is always with us. Our reward awaits us in heaven.
Prayer: Thank you Father for our many blessings. Thank you for the gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Thank you for our counselor, the Holy Spirit. Thank you for Your love and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
