Sewing With a Purpose

Dozens of pillowcases decorated the front of the church this past Sunday in recognition of September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Ryan’s Case for Smiles’ Mission:

To enable children with cancer and other life-changing illness and injuries, as well as their families, to cope with their illness today, while building resilience to thrive in the future. In short, to feel better to heal better!

Ryan's Case for Smiles was founded in 2007 to bring comfort and support to young patients and their families in hospitals around the globe. They want to remind children they are not defined by their illness. (

Beymer's sewing group partners with the Orlando Chapter of Ryan's Case for Smiles which provides whimsical pillowcases to help relieve stress and give an emotional boost to children during their hospital experience. Hospitals served are AdventHealth for Children, Nemours, and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. One of the group members has sent a pillowcase to a child on the church prayer list at St. Judes fighting a brain tumor.

Sewing With a Purpose pillowcase ministry meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 pm in Stradely Hall. Fabric is provided and volunteers are always welcome as there is a need for people to iron cuffs, cut material and sew.
